Through the storm

Measuring 120cm x 80cm, this acrylic and latex polymer painting on pine board captures a defining moment from my 2019 runway show, Xhibit. At its centre stands Kwabee—poised and commanding—wearing a bespoke, hand-painted garment that blurs the boundary between fashion and fine art.

But this piece isn’t merely a snapshot. It channels the spirit behind the garment, reimagining clothing not as functional wear, but as a living canvas for expression. Every brushstroke on board mirrors the detail and devotion embedded in the original design, inviting the viewer to see threads and pigments as equals in the art-making process.

The backdrop—a brooding wash of deep purple streaked with lightning and heavy clouds—evokes nature’s unrestrained beauty and volatile energy. It’s a visual echo of the raw inspiration that drives artistic creation, reminding us that garments can speak louder than words when infused with purpose and power.
